“In ordinary life we hardly realize that we receive a great deal more than we give, and that it is only with gratitude that life becomes rich.” Dietrich Bonhoeffer, German theologian, pastor, and Nazi resister.
The practice of Gratitude helps us recognize the support that we have received on our path. It helps us review our strengths and acknowledge the dreams and goals we have already achieved. It reminds us of everything we already have and creates a sense of appreciation to our benefactors and loved ones who support us on our journey.
The practice of gratitude also involves an admission of our vulnerability and our dependence on other people. Once we realize how interconnected and interdependent we are, we become more humble.
Upon realizing how much we already have, gratitude yields a sense of trust. Trust in our own merits. Trust in the kindness of others. Trust in the wonders of the universe. A trust that assists us in developing the courage to pursue our ambitions in life.
The Journey to Our Desired Future
But even if life isn’t perfect just yet. Even if we’re not feeling fully contented with where we are and what we have. Upon reviewing our strengths and capacities and based on our understandings on how much we already have, how fortunate we already are now, how much we already are, we can now begin and practice gratitude to our future. Remember that everything we’ve ever wanted had already happened. Everything we ever wished for have already materialized. So why not our future.
It is beneficial to recall that our “being” -the “higher self” or “the one who knows”- lives only in the present moment so it helps to live our “small self’s” dreams and aspirations as if they are present moment realities. As is they already happened. And be grateful for them as if they already happened.
Be grateful for the perfect job we will embark on, a perfect state of health, a flow of money, incredible creativity, a beautiful vacation, the perfect relationship or a spacious new house. Whatever we want. Whatever we dare to dream of. Let’s be grateful to our the future we want.
Diverting our attention towards gratitude we already experience the feelings of abundance in our relationships, our strengths, our achievements, and everything that is miraculous and powerful around us. These are the foundations of a healthier and more fulfilled life.. They are also the pathway to our best possible life. Enjoy the journey.
